My blog experience

I
must admit that I read blogs, but I have never written one myself! It has been really fun to try something new and challenge myself. I think the tasks we have received has been excellent and useful as I am going to write a blog analysis now. I think that writing a blog and blogging about the process has been a good and effective experience, it has also been great with constructive criticism because I know now what I need to work on and develop further. It has been interesting to read the blogs of my classmates, I have received some inspiration from them. I feel I have gained a deeper insight in the book I am reading and I will definitely use this blog while working with the analysis. :-)

Arthur Golden

"It is confusing, because in this culture we really don't have anything that corresponds to geisha. "
- Arthur Golden

Arthur Golden wrote the bestselling novel "Memoirs of a Geisha". I couldn't find any other books written by him, so "Memoirs of a Geisha" must be the only book
that has managed to succeed and become world famous. He was born in 1956, Tennessee. He attended Harvard University, and became more and more interested in Japanese history, culture and art. He also learned Mandarin Chinese. He is currently living in Massachusetts with his son and daughter. To me, he is an excellent writer with ingenious words, so a new book by him would have made me happy.

The heart of Japan

The author tells the story of a famous geisha in the popular district of Gion in Kyoto. For those who don't know where that is; It's in beautiful Japan! The time is during the '30s and '40s. Arthur Golden introduces the world to an unknown society. We follow a journey not only into the center of the geisha culture but straight into the heart of Japan.

Book analysis

I have chosen to write a book anlysis after I've finished reading the book because I think that writing a book report would be too easy for me. It's fun with a challenge aswell! I also have the chance to go deeper into the book and analyze it on my own way. I hope the result will be successful!

Fun fact

Since my book is about a Geisha, I thought I would tell you something interesting!

Geisha are female Japanese entertainers, trained in the arts of music and dance. But did you know that in the western society, Geisha are regarded as prostitutes?

The movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" looks pretty good, but I hope the book is better. The book has received very good critics and I can see why! I've only read a few pages but so far it's very fascinating.

Question to readers: Have you seen the movie? Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think.

First post!

The reason why I chose the book "Memoirs of a Geisha" is completely random. I have heard about the book before, and I've seen the trailer for the film, but I have never shown interest before now. It's fun to try something new! My expectations are high because after its release in 1997, "Memoirs of a Geisha" spent two years on the New York Times bestseller list. It has sold more than four million copies in English and has been translated into thirty-two languages around the world. Wow, it must be a really good book!
